San Antonio's main termite threat is the native subterranean termite. The eastern subterranean termite is the most common termite in North America; colonies range from about 20,000 to 5 million workers. Native subterranean swarmers are dark, fly in daylight, and usually start swarming in February or March. The invasive Formosan termite is also found in Texas, where its swarm season is late May to early June, at night around lights.
